hello , rite now i am running celeron d 360 3.46ghz overclocked to 4.2 ghz with windows 7 and its awful at multitasking ... i cant run more then 2 or 3 Firefox tabs with out it hanging and if im downloading updates then Firefox becomes near enough unusable .,... i have a pentium 4 560j 3.6ghz with hyperhtreading and a copper based cooler lying about ... would i see a performance boost from the pentium 4 as im assuming it would be better as it has more cache and hyperthreading ... i only use pc for older games like san andreas and web browsing .... i hear windows 7 makes decent use of the ht ... the only thing i would need to buy would be thermal paste .. so want to know if its worth going out to get the paste for a decent improvement as this celeron d is awfulll even at 4.2ghz

I would say there is some performance to be had by swapping to the Pentium 4, since it has all of the L1/L2 cache at its disposal; older Celerons were notorious for being seriously chopped down compared to the mainstream processors.

i will swap out to the pentium 4 as i dont want to put money into this machine as its old and only want smooth web surfing on windows 7 .... this celeron d at 4.2ghz is even worse then the 1.6ghz single core ht atom in my netbook lol so im thinking the p4 with its l2 cache and ht would be better then this celeron d crap

well i went to town and bote some thermal paste and put the pentium 4 560 in along with the copper based cooler that i have lying round and at stock 3.6ghz its much better at multitasking then the celeron D .. i would say the pentium 4 is better then the atom ... but obv the atom is a super low power cpu lol ..whats the safest max temp for this cpu to operate as when i overclock to 4ghz it hits around 70 to 78 degress

According to Intel, you should not exceed 73 degrees, so you might want to back off on that overclock a bit.
