Hi everyone, I've been thinking of setting up a media server/nas for my home network. The basic idea is to have a system with all the movies, photos, music, etc. that will be able to stream the files to any device in my house (using plex).
I wanted to use a 3x3tb raid 5 array for the media but have an issue. I don't want to use another drive for the OS (win7/8) and would like to install the OS in the raid 5 array, which I understand is possible by setting the raid 5 in the bios, and then installing windows.
The problem I forsee is that I won't be able to configure the drives in the bios because they are over 2tb's. I hear that drives over 2tb are limited to 2tb because of the way windows reads drives or something along those lines. I know there is a way to make windows read it as a 3tb drive, but is that possible from the bios? If i have to install windows before I can set the raid, i would be losing space in the raid array which I would prefer not to but is ok if I must.
Sorry for the long post I wanted to relay everything I was considering and my situation. Thank you in advance.
