Computer restarts when loading/playing games.

G'day,
I recently acquired a second-hand gaming computer.
It's an ASUSTeK Rampage III Extreme, and runs an Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core CPU with two Radeon HD 6970 graphics cards in crossfire. It's water-cooled and even in intense gaming never goes past 50 degrees Celsius on any of the CPU's.

Yet, when playing games like World of Tanks and Empire at War, it restarts without warning during gameplay or when loading levels. On The Old Republic, it cannot even get to the server select screen - it restarts every time it tries to load.

It is not overclocked at all and is running on stock speeds. This is getting really annoying - I can't run any relatively new games at all (Jedi Outcast and Faster Than Light seem to work fine though) without my computer restarting.

Interestingly, some days, this problem seems to magically go away on one game (World of Tanks), but stay around for the others. The computer NEVER restarts like this when I am not playing games.

Any ideas how to fix this? I'm frankly sick of it.

What is your Antivirus? Download Malwarebytes and scan for Malware (not the same thing as Viruses). If the Antivirus is out of date (not paid for), remove it then download and install AVAST! or AVG from www.filehippo.com (easiest and fastest way to get the most up to date version). I would suspect there is something hinky in the OS and these are the usual suspects, also you DO have the Windows Key right? And the DVD (If not you can download the ISO from Microsoft and burn your own DVD after you made sure the system is clean first)?
What PSU is in there?

One thing you can try is to remove the second GPU from the motherboard and disconnect the PSU from it (you can keep the cooler on it) and test it. Its possible that when gaming, the demand for voltage is too high for what the PSU can deliver.

If it still occurs once up to date.

Turned off everything, updated to latest driver and removed one of the graphics cards. Games run fine now, there's absolutely no problem - but now Google Chrome isn't displaying web-pages properly, and re-installing the program isn't doing any good. Internet Explorer seems to be working fine, though.

For Chrome, try clearing the Cache. I use Firefox and sometimes the web pages get jacked. Clearing the cache usually fixes the issue.

Did updating to the latest driver help or did you remove the card before testing? I ask because if the driver didn't fix it, then your PSU probably isn't up to the task. But if the driver fixed it, then that was the issue and you can use both GPUs.
