I have basically all of my parts already mapped out:

CPU: Intel i7 3930K
Graphics Card: Asus GTX 780
HDD: WD 1TB Blue
SSD: Samsung 840 PRO Series 128GB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz 16GB (2x8)
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 850W
Optical Drive:Asus 24x DVD Drive
Case: CM Storm Stryker
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Hydro Series
Motherboard: Was pretty convinced I would get the Gigabyte Ga-X79-UP4, but now I'm undecided and was considering the ASUS P9X79, Intel DX79TO X79, MSI X79A-GD65, MSI Big Bang-XPower II and ASUS Rampage IV Formula.

Since I already own the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 and the Razer Deathadder 2013, as well as the Goliathus Extended Edition, I was hoping to go for a green colour scheme, since my graphics card will also glow green. However the only decent green mobo i've found is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... which is actually kind of tacky-looking to be honest, with the gun and all. If i change and go for a blue themed build, which motherboard would be best, colour-wise and performance wise, or else what would the best components to make a red build. The other colour I had considered was purple, but it seems quite difficult to pull that off without the build looking shit. Would really appreciate if anyone could post a picture link or a forum to give me ideas, thanks.

if this is to be a gaming rig, you are wasting your time with x79. if this is to be a workstation, you are still better off with a z87 platform build. if this is to be a hardcore video editing rig which i assure you its not, then id consider x79

if its a gaming rig id rather get this
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1k6mK

-the i7 performs worse in games
-fast ram is instant void to warranty. if you were running x79, you will want a quad channel ram kit. a dual channel will just shoot yourself in the foot
-dont bother with a cheap liquid cooler. if you want liquid cooling, get something legitmate like a h220 from swiftech
-thermaltake psus are sub par
-there is practically no difference between a medium tier ssd vs the 840 pro in real life. get a larger drive rather than a half sized faster drive
-there are better cases out there for the money
-get a aftermarket cooler 780 they perform better, run cooler, and run quieter all at the same time

if you are to get a video editing rig, get this

Oh okay, just a few more questions, I really want this build to be lasting me for at least the next four years, which was the reason for the OP components in the first place. If i have the money to build it, is a 2011 socket build going to last me longer than a z87 build? I had also heard that the Haswell processors heated up a lot more than the 3rd gen cpu's and that there's only a max 10% increase in performance. If I'm spending $3000 I don't want to have something that's going to have to upgraded in the near future and I was also fairly keen for it to be quite, as well as well-cooled, since i plan to overclock, which is also why I considered water cooling. Also, buying two 780's isn't really viable at this stage because 1) they cost a shitload more in Australia and 2) I thought 1 780 would suffice since it's probably in the toip 5 cards on the market right now?

for what you are doing, they last just as long as each other with the haswell having the upper end just because its 20% faster per core

i didnt say that you should get 2 780s. i only said to get 1. 1 is more than enough for 1080p gaming any day

Okay so I've gone and looked at a z87 build and this is what I came up with:

Intel i7 4770K CPU

Tossing up between: ASUS Z87 Expert, Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC, Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H, MSI Z87-GD65 or any other z87 board that you think might be better? I was actually trying to change my budget slightly, so that i could actually make room for 2 780's but I'm not sure if it's worth it just yet?

the ud3h is more than enough for what you are doing. if you want the red colour scheme of the ud4h, go ahead. the only difference is that the ud4h has 8x2 phases while the ud3h has a solid 8

But the vengeance pro's are only like $6 more than the normal vengeance 1866 sticks?

there is a reason that i almost always dont recommend corsair due to their premium pricing, but standard quality

get these. if you thought 1866 performs better than 1600mhz, it does, but when the difference is equivalent to overclocking your GPU 10mhz, you are wasting your time
