PWM fans worth it?

Solution
Short answer: Yes.

My hearing is blammo'ed. I'm still fairly young, and I already have tennitus, so I am kind of obsessive about acoustics. With my case, and my CPU cooler, my fans rarely actually need to go up to 100%.

If you don't care about sound, and know what Fan controller your getting (because I don't think all Fan Controllers are conveniently adaptable for 4-pin fans? Could totally be wrong.) then go ahead with just getting 3-in fans.

With a fan controller in the picture, I think the only advantage PWM has over 3-pin is that it may be more energy efficient. Just the nature of how it works. Again, I could be wrong.
On Newegg, the price difference is only five dollars. (27.99 and 32.99, respectively.) I wouldn't mind spending $5 for a bit of piece of mind.

I would say that it depends on what fan controller you're getting, though I am not expert on that matter.

So, you would probably get PWM instead of regular fans?

PWM is just a more accurate way of controlling fan speed, IMO it isn't that important if you can control fan speed to the exact RPM.
Besides, fan controllers that support PWM are few and far between, usually digital models that offer little wattage on each channel.
