Per some of the answers I have found, I have removed my hard drive from the case it s a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB ST 3750640A. Original problem was it would only load about 95% then look like it was continuing but would finally lock up. After I removed the case, set the jumper to cable select, hook it up, it is recognized by the BIOS but not by windows 7. I go into DOS and CHKDSK the drive that it should be which I believe to be "F" as A, C, D, E are all used, and I get error messsage "CANNOT OPEN VOLUME FOR DIRECT ACCESS". This drive has many files that are important, any sugestions? Any software on the market that will recognize/recover it?

Thank you,
Ricky

Data recovery software free and decent : http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

Some help info : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823439

You can try this also :

You can boot from your Windows 7 DVD, work your way through the "repair" menus and select Command Prompt.

Once your running under the command prompt (black screen with white letters), type

chkdsk C: /r

and hit enter.

It will take some time so be patient.

Microsoft support covered mostly XP, I downloaded and installed PhotoRec, but just like Windows It does not see that hard drive. The hard drive was a USB but now has been removed from the case and installed per IDE cable select. Any more suggestions?
Thank you,
Ricky
