Problem updating Java

Hi,

I have a plugin called Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.250.17 10.25.2.17 that Firefox says is known to be vulnerable. One of the suggestions I found online was to update Java. I downloaded and installed the latest version of Java (Java 7 Update 25) from the Java website. But when I check the Java Control Panel the about information says that I am still running Java version 6 update 33, which is the version I was running before I installed the latest version. I am running Windows 7 64, can someone please tell me how to properly update Java? Also I have disabled the Java Deployment Toolkit but is it really a security risk?

Thank you.
