Should I build a pc now?

Hi!

I'm thinking about building a pc in a few weeks, but have heard that there will be new processors and GPUs coming out soon. Is this true? Should I build a pc now, or should I wait?

Thanks!

If you are worried about gaming with next gen consoles and everything, then wait for the consoles to be released, and wait for AMD to drop in the HD 8000/9000 series. If you want to buy a gaming machine right now, the GTX 760 is an extremely good deal right now at $250.

There always are (and always will be) new CPUs and GPUs ready to be foisted upon the market and whatever you buy is almost certain to be obsolete in six months. You are better off figuring out what you want from a machine and building to that spec, as opposed to chasing a moving goal.

Thanks for the replies!

This is going to be a gaming/graphic design PC.

Examples of the types of games that I want to play:
Metro Last Light
Starcraft 2 (my pc is really really old).
Witcher 2
Total War: Rome 2 and Shogun 2

I don't use 3d much for graphic design, but I do use Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver a lot.

My budget is around $1000.

I was thinking about using the Q1 $1000 System Build (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-performance-overclocking,3437.html) as an baseline and have “updated” some of the parts:

Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-A LGA 1150 Intel Z87 (It doesn’t have to be this exact motherboard. It just needs to be Z87 motherboard that is around $150. Is there a better option?).
Graphics: MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz (I tried doing some research, but is still not sure if this is the best RAM for this build. Is it?)
System Drive: Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD3000HLHX 300GB (The original build had a SSD. How crucial is it to get a SSD? Will it make a huge difference?)
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite Classic Mid Tower
Power: Antec Neo Eco 520C 520 W, ATX12V v2.3, 80 PLUS-Certified
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1

I was wondering if any of these differences from Q1 build will affect the components that were not changed. For example:

Will the 520W PS still work with the Z87 motherboard and GTX760?
Will the CPU cooler still work?

Thanks!

A 7870 xt performs better than a gtx 760
A asrock z77 extreme 6 which is gud fr o.c.
A ssd provides faster bootin time faster game loading time
No the antec power supply wud nt be able to power the system
The cooler is descent but a 212 evo wud be better

Heres the best built u can have

Thanks!

I chose the gtx760 over the 7870xt because I research I did show that gtx760 did better than the 7870xt (http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/4525/17/nvidia-geforce-gtx-760-review-boost-for-the-mid-range-segment-crysis-3---1920x1080-+-frametimes). I also saw this article on this site that the gtx760 is the best card for $250 (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-5.html). Is there any reasons (or any other factors) why you think the 7870xt is better?

I also chose the Asus because I wanted the Z87 motherboard because it will have better upgrade potential than the Z77, and I needed a cpu that “fits” with that mobo (is that vernacular still used?). Is there a good Z87 motherboard that’s great for OC? And will the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO still work with the Z87 setup, or is it necessary to get a better CPU cooler if I want to OC?

The research I did mentioned that the differences between the Asus z87 A and z87 plus is two more SATA. Is there any other differences that I missed?

Thanks again!

Thanks! I'm just giving myself the best chance to be able to upgrade in the future, whereas I already know that the Z77 has been replaced by the Z87.

Is the ASRock version of the Z87 better overclocking mobo than the Asus? If so, should I get the ASRock Z87 Extreme6, or is the Extreme4 good enough?

Thanks!
