I need some help future proofing my PC for next generation. I have the opportunity to get an employee deal to get an Intel® Desktop Board DH87RL and Intel Core i5-4670K for $200.

I was wondering if you guys think this set up with 6-8gb of ram, and a new compatible GPU (maybe 7000 series?) would be able to run well late into the next console generation?

Right now I have an i3 530, ati radeon 5770 and I don’t know how much longer that will be able to keep up( my novice assumption being the i3 would be a bottleneck even after a good GPU upgrade). Especially since people are saying things are being optimized for AMD architecture.

GPU $<200 . I would want a new GPU, but I can reuse my Case, 1tbHD, RAM, 650 PSU, 6GB Ram, etc. With the 200 on the mobo/processor, I don't see spending more that $400 on anything else.

Do you think going with Intel will hurt me in the long run, and would my i3 hold back a new GPU? I have always been more drawn to Intel products over AMD. Guess their marketing works on me.

The good thing is that combo costs less than the Core i5-4670k itself; $200 for both the CPU and mobo. The bad thing is that the H87 chipset does not allow you to overclock. However, buying an i5-4670k and a Z87 mobo will cost you around $400; with a good (but not great) Z87 mobo.

If you are not looking to immediately overclock the i5-4670k, then just buy the combo and be done with it. If you want to overclock, then buy a Z87 motherboard as well and ebay the Intel mobo.

See if u can get a 3570k its cheaper and better o.c.able than a 4670k and the diff in their perfrmance is 5-10% only
And for the gpu i wud strongly recommend a 7870 ghz 2gb gpu to u
