I'm really confused. Some websites say it has SATA 6 and some say it only has SATA III. Does any owner of the 990FX version help me out.

More about : asrock 990fx extreme4 sata ports

No difference between sata 3 and 6 for hard drives. Sata 6 was designed for SSDs but even those are not fast enough to take advantage of it yet.

You should look up benchmarks of the hard disk model you are interested in and compare it to benchmarks of other brand models. You can't just look at cache and tell which HDD is going to be faster.

SSDs are faster but also expensive so they are mostly used for installing the OS and some frequently used applications. Everything else is placed on a large hard disk. So you should get both or just a HDD depending on your budget.

i still believe the sata 6 is on the 990fx mobo also

Although I'm not sure these were ever "official" revisions, essentially:
SATA I = 1.5Gb/s
SATA II = 3Gb/s
SATA III = 6Gb/s.

Assuming that 990FX has the 950 Southbridge on it, it has SATA 6Gb/s ports.

Lol SATA 6 actually is SATA III ie., 6Gbps and SATA II or SATA 3 means 3Gbps and I think the asrock should definitely sport the SATA 6Gbps or SATA III coz I have the 890 gx etreme 3 myself and have 6 ports that are SATA III yours should have them too. or if you intend to buy one then be sure to visit the motherboard website for the complete specifications and read a few reviews on the web before making the purchase.

This is incorrect. Modern SSDs do take advantage of the extra bandwidth, however they do not normally make use of all of it. Some real-world functions are accelerated with 6GB/s speeds

That link would seem to indicate that little is to be gained. If all you are going to test is boot times and application start times, your results will not be great.

However, when you start to look at gaming load times the picture actually changes. I have seen this personally as well.

Gaming load times can actually use the extra bandwidth better. The result can be startling in some games.

To actually answer your question, simply look at the manual. There are MANY versions of 990FX motherboards made by ASRock, so you need to be more specific.

Extreme 3, Extreme 4, Professional, Extreme 9
