Hi I have recently purchased an acer s271HL bid monitor which is great except it wont work with my receiver. After doing a ton of searching I found out that my receiver only supports hdmi from 1.3a and higher. So can someone tell me what version hdmi these monitors have or how to find out?

on a side note does the hdmi cable you use need to be compatible with the hdmi ports' versions? i.e. if you have a monitor with hdmi 1.3a and a receiver with 1.3a do you need a 1.3a cable? or does that exist?

a normal hdmi cable would work fine, the monitor should work with any version of hdmi, are you making sure the receiver is on before the monitor?

yeah the receiver is on before the monitor. I actually recorded a video of the problem I was having here:

Ive tried everything I could think of switching cables, dvi to hdmi instead of hdmi to hdmi, and much much more. If you have any insight I would really appreciate it.

is the receiver connected to the pc using hdmi output?

if its connected to the pc try using windows key + p and selecting extended mode and see if it makes a difference.

does the monitor support HDCP?

i didn't hear at first but you said it works fine plugged into consoles, all i can think is that the HDCP connection check between the receiver and monitor is failing so the receiver will not send a signal.

I have both actually an hdmi to dvi and just hdmi to hdmi cables. I currently have it as the hdmi to dvi. anything I plug into the monitor without the receiver works fine. On the newegg site it is listed as a monitor that supports hdcp. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Unless it is printed wrong that is.

My other monitor is a cheep old thing I got on ebay that only has vga. So I have no way to test it.
Acers website doesnt say anything about it being hdcp.

ah right, yeah i checked their website and documentation for the monitor and see no mention of HDCP.

is odd since most devices need HDCP to work, did you use an xbox 360 or a ps3 to try with the monitor?

normally a ps3 will not work if the display does not have hdcp.

Yeah I have tried both and both work so I guess it must have it.

all i can think is that if the panasonic outputs to other devices fine then the hdcp chips in both devices do not like eachother.

So the best solution would be to get another device? I have a vsx 822k pioneer receiver. I'm looking at stuff from Asus to see if they work any better. I wanna stay under 230 and still go 27 inch. Any suggestions? Do you know of anyone who used a similar set up and had it work well with a particular brand?

I tried the firmware update with no luck same loop cycle. If you have any more ideas please let me know because I just found out newegg wont take it back... so im stuck with a 2000 dollar setup that wont work

http://www.drhdmi.eu/ it might be a bit more expense on the top but this seems like a valid solution if it is HDCP related for getting the monitor working, see if you can find this locally where you live.

i had read that people had resolved connection issues with AV receivers by placing a regenerative smart switch between the receiver and monitor/tv.

a guy said the 3 port version of this switch worked for him http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Switch-Wireless-Remot...

Well guess I'm going to try that then. Which one do you think is more promising? The switch or the dr. Hdmi?

Also something unrelated, if I got the doctor hdmi would I be able to use that usb for the googlecast?

i would think the dr hdmi would be the better choice as its main function is to fix these kinds of problems.

although as a cheaper option you could look in a local store for a digital hdmi switcher and see if that works first because of the price, if it does not work then take it back, better to look for one thats not in a plastic container.

just take it back and say it wouldnt work with your equipment since hdmi is an arse like this anyway.

what do you mean by googlecast with the usb? the usb on the dr hdmi is for power and to reprogram it.
