Hello all, my girlfriend recently got a gaming PC. It has been perfect until yesterday, at which point the fans got louder and faster until they hit max speed. After exiting all games, restarting, etc, the fans always run at max speed, even when she's just on the desktop.

We have tried going into the BIOS and changing fan settings, but this had no effect. It is also interesting that the fans spin at normal speed while in the BIOS, and only get loud once windows boots up.

Any help would be awesome, thanks guys.

Which fan? The fan will only change speed if it is PWM type. First, check out the BIOs fan setting, and try to manually change it. Usually mobos have settings by temp or % from max. If is Install Speedfan, and monitor the RPM at idle, and while running prime95. That way, you can see the changes due to system load. If it is NOT PWM fan, you have a malfunctioned fan, or too much juice going through it speeding it up to above its normal RPM speed, so you may need to replace it or may need to check out if the power connector and see if it is working okay.
