updating bios on my asus P8Z77-V LK

So in the process of troubleshooting for a hardware issue, I wanted to update my bios.

However the bios file i download from the asus homepage (tried both bios versions released after my current version 0908) doesn't work.

Or to be more precise, when I use the update tool in my bios menu, it claims that the file is not a bios file. (and yes I did unpack the zip-file)

please help

All Asus 6,7, and 8 series motherboards use the newer UEFI compatible firmware, not the older BIOS firmware.

The problem that you describe does happen occasionally, some new firmware ROMs simply refuse to flash from within the Asus EZ Flash II menu. This can be resolved by flashing the firmware by using the Asus AI Suite II toolset from within Windows.

A while back Asus converted from a .ROM format to a .CAP format which altered the layout of the firmware. I'm not sure if this affects their Z77 based motherboards but it did affect the X79 based motherboards. To convert from the older .ROM to the newer .CAP format, Asus provides a conversion tool in the form of a .ROM file which should be flashed with the latest .CAP file beside it in...
