Updated my GTX 760 drivers, now Win won't boot

Finished my first build today, installed Win8, updated it, and then decided to install the drivers for my GTX 760. The Nvidia program that checks for and updates drivers for the cards said that my computer wasn't compatible (as if I didn't have the 760). So I went to the device manager and while I can't remember exactly what it said it was something along the lines of 'Generic Microsoft Display Device' or something to that extent.

So I got the disc out and tried installing the drivers from there. About thirty seconds in, the computer froze and now will not boot into Windows. The Windows 8 logo comes up, then the screen goes black. And that's it.

My system specs are:

FX-6300
ASUS M5A97 R2.0
8GB of Miskun (spelling) Black 1600 RAM
Gigabyte Windforce GTX 760
1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue

Update: I can run repair on my Windows 8 installation and just wipe all the files, set it up back up and it lets me get back into Windows.

So I updated my motherboard chipset, etc. Then went ahead and tried to install the drivers for the 760 again.

Same thing, it starts running the drivers, then shows the Windows 8 background and essentially freezes. I thought maybe the drivers were still being installed and gave it a good 20 minutes, but no results. Just stays frozen. I have no idea what to do.

Started installing, was going along like it had before, then screen flashed black, went to the Win 8 background with the program minimized and my mouse control was gone. Never regained functionality of the system. Thanks for trying though, I really just don't know what's going on at this point.
