I have a computer with the following:

Supermicro x8sax Mobo
Intel Xeon w3540 cpu

I recently tried to add a 64 GB OCZ Vector+ SSD, plugging it into the 3rd SATA port (My current regular HD is plugged into one SATA and my optical drive in another).

The problem is that in the BIOS, the SSD does not show as a SATA device. SATA #1 is HD and SATA #2 is Optical. The SSD is listed under "Third IDE Master". Because of this, I am unable to edit its settings and switch to AHCI because the mobo has you adjust that setting with each SATA device and not a universal setting.

Does anyone know how to get the SSD to show up as a SATA device thereby allowing me to edit it and switch to AHCI?

Page 4-12 of your motherboard manual seems to indicate that you can only set ACHI mode on port SATA1, so connect your SSD to that port.

See page 1-4 if you need to verify the location of port SATA1.

Here's a link to the manual: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/X58/X8SAX.cfm

Ok. I missed that part. I know that SATA #1 is set to IDE as it is just a regular SATA HD connected, therefore SATA #2 was configurable as well.

If I put SSD in SATA1, regular HD in SATA2, and then the optical on SATA3, are there any adverse effects from the optical then being listed as Third IDE Master (assuming it puts it where the SSD is now)?
