Compatible issue with my graphic card and my motherboard

Hi,
I recently installed a new graphics card, GTX 760. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4. At first everything was fine but then boot times took forever and then it took a turn for the worse and I got the black screen of death. I couldn't even enter my bios. I did every troubleshooting guide on the planet but it would not load. I couldn't even get to the flash of the windows logo or enter safe mode. So I put back my old graphics card, GTX 660 and everything works flawless. So my question is this motherboard compatible with the new gtx 700 series or am I missing a step in the installation process? I updated all the drivers and necessary requirements.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Quick question: Is your monitor connected to to VGA/DVI/HDMI/etc on your card? If so, is it sleep mode when you turn it on?

Even if you didn't remove the previous drivers, you shouldn't get a black screen. Your card probably came dead on arrival. Confirm by plugging the GTX 760 into another system (ideally with another monitor too). If the black screen appears, you have to RMA.

Note: I'm assuming all other components work because you stated everything is okay upon reinstalling the 660.

I use a DVI connection. I unfortunately don't have another computer to try the 760 on. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing the 760 and running the driver CD again to receive the same results. With the longer boot time and black screen I believe it's definitely a DOA. Thanks for your help :)

Silly question: Since I am returning this card now. I might as well upgrade to the 770. Would that work with my mobo?

RMA isn't as bad you think, especially with Newegg. If you're local, return is even more pleasant not to mention the time you'll save.

770 will work. Anyway, sorry about your 760 but I like how you found the silver lining - just get the 770 while you are at it. *thumbs up
