Just finished up my first build (FX 8350, Gigabyte 990fx UD3, Cooler master Hyper 212 evo). I had difficulty positioning the cooler bracket so that I could mount it parallel to the back of the case. As is now, the fan is blowing down towards my GPU. I would like to re-position the cooler.

Would I need to clean and reapply thermal paste? Also, since I will be OC'ing, should I buy a different paste?

Solution

Yes, if you need to repostition the cooler, you will need to clean the thermal paste off, I would use at least 90% alcohol. For the TIM, I use Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra (Really good temps) with a small pea-sized dot in the center and let the heatsink spread it itself.

Yes.

If you want to. Keep in mind that the difference is 2-3 degrees (C) at best if done properly, if you need all the cooling you can get.
