TL;DR: Used to be really into custom gaming rigs in high school. Life intervened. 10 years later, I'm back, and with more budget to spend. Help me do something awesome.

Long version:
I've already built myself a new rig. Details:
Intel i5-3450
12 GB of RAM
Geforce 560 Ti w/448 cores
Samsung 256 GB Pro SSD + 2TB HDD that I don't even need
650W Corsair power supply

My "problem":
I have cash to burn. This system can run every game I have at maximum graphics.

So yes, I could go up to an i7. I could do SLI video. I could put SSDs in a raid. But for basically zero benefit.

How can I do something really cool from here? Ideas:
- Get a better audio setup (using just two Bose speakers right now)
- Dual monitors (but I don't see the benefit, I'm not a multi-tasker that way)
- Get a cool looking case (just using a generic black case right now)

Other suggestions? I'm rusty.

If your system runs fine then leave it that way, I'd save money for when something cool does come up or when your midrange GPU stops cutting it.

Honestly, I'd save it for a rainy day.

...

Buuuuuut if you really want to spend some fliff, look into the acoustics and airflow of your case. Even if you get a new case, consider switching out the fans for something more effective and efficient. It's pretty awesome when you have a rig that is whisper quiet. By corollary, perhaps even invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler (and/or Fan Controller). Getting an aftermarket CPU cooler was probably the best non-essential investment I ever made.

Case acoustics aside, better audio (speakers or headphones) is always nice.

replace that 560 with GTX 760 or GTX 770 ... there is no way 560 Ti is good for gaming today at high settings....

OR

you can GET an IPS high resolution Monitor with 1 billion color support, this will make a Big difference , like the

Raidmax???? Really? If you've got money to burn I'd stay very far away from them.

So maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm running brand new games (e.g. Neverwinter) on absolutely maxed out settings, and they run smooth as glass.

I'm sure I could get more FPS out of an even better video card, but what's the point if my monitor can't display it and I can't even notice it with my own eyes?

Do you have any recommendations on the audio side of things?

OK, I'm not sure what FPS it's giving me, but whatever it is, it's sufficiently indistinguishable from perfect.

Sadly, I am not an expert when it comes to things audio. I am also more of a headphone type of guy.

That said, this is the pair of headphones I have:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

They're great. I let them charge at night, and wear them during the day. As long as you don't have too many obstructions, you can go a room or two away and still have conversations on Teamspeak, Skype, or whathaveyou. They also have a really good sound quality (not that I am the best judge) and are fairly comfortable. The support pad, that rests on your head, needed to be broken in a bit, but it didn't take too long. If you install the software that is available with them, you can do some fun things with your voice.

I've owned *a lot* of pairs of headphones, both good and bad. These are easily amongst the best.
