Hello,
I have a home-build computer that randomly stopped working. I tried to get it to post using only the motherboard, the case speaker, the PSU, and the CPU, but I was not getting anything. I know the power supply and the motherboard work for a fact, so I'm assuming it's the processor. I really needed an upgrade anyway, so I'm going to get the Phenom II 955 or 965. The problem is, I thought it was the motherboard at first, so I snagged a new one, but it still wouldn't post, and I tested this mobo with another processor. I do not have any money now, so this is like a multi-question topic. Is the reason why it wont post the CPU? And also, the only way I can get money until Christmas is selling parts I have. I have a bunch of different DDR2 RAM, but thats only going to get me like 40 dollars or so. Is it worth it to sell one of my 500GB HDDs in order to get enough money for the new CPU? Also, note that I record my game plays, so multiple storage components benefit me.
Thanks,
TheBricktator

Check your CPU for bent/broken pins...if you have some bent, that may be it and those can offten be straightened with a pair of razor blades.....if theat looks good may want to put it on a bench and troubleshoot, have a guide I wrote that might help here:

Okay, I'm almost positive that it doesn't have any bent pins, but I'm going to run though the guide you posted. I'll update when I'm done

It seems that the processor does have like 2 or 3 bent pins. It also seems to be flat out missing a pin. Like there is a spot where is supposed to be, but there is no pin there. Not like the parts on an AMD chip where there isnt supposed to pins, but there is definitely supposed to be a pin there.

Might take a couple of razor blades, put one to either side down the aisle and gently squeeze them together, the do the same at a right angle, if you can get the pins straight, might solve the roblems 9though there's still the missing one which may be the troublemaker....

I just unbent all except one which I cant seem to get. I'm going to try the cpu anyway, and see if I get lucky

Yep, nope. I'm obviously not good at trying to unbend pins, cause when I tried to unbend that last one, I bent a lot more. I'll just start saving up for a new processor. Do you have any answers for the money side of things, like whether I should sell the 500GB HDD

That's up to you, sounds like you'll want it, if handy with computers might see if you can pick up odd jobs upgrading or fixing systems
