Right now I have a FX4100 @ 4.4ghz and it does pretty well, but I'm looking to upgrade. Should I get a FX8350 or wait for steamroller? I hear rumors that they won't be high end CPUs or steamroller wont be on AM3+. Any help and/or links would be appreciated. My PC is for gaming.

Specs:
FX4100 @ 4.4ghz
7850 2gb
128gb ssd
1tb hd
750w psu
ASROCK 970 extreme3

AMD confirmed no such thing. AMD confirmed that there would be one more line of FX processors for socket AM3+. The writer assumed that meant steamroller. It could very well be a Vishra refresh and since opteron is getting a piledriver refresh i'm inclined to believe it will be a refresh for FX...

Correct me if I am wrong but Sandy and Ivy bridge were both lga1155 and they were 32 and 22 nm respectively. I think AMD has already confirmed that SR will be AM3+ and there will be a new socket for Excavator.

I don't know if steamroller is even coming out for the FX line. I love AMD but lets face facts here, the FX line (and Opteron on the server side of things) aren't doing so well. It does make sense for AMD to focus on their strengths right now. I hope it will hit the FX line but I'm not expecting it.

Also, the AM3+ socket is quite old. Just because Intel had a die shrink on their socket doesn't mean that AMD will be able to do so. AM3 and AM3+ has seen a long line of CPUs already.

To OP...

Unless you do heavy video editing, I'd recommend either the 6300 or 6350. Both are way better than the cpu you have now and both are a fair bit cheaper than the 8350. I'd wait for Vishra 2.0 or solid FX Steamroller news before going for an 8 core

cite your source. As far as I am aware, AMD never said "Steamroller will be on AM3+." They just said that AM3+ would see one more processor line which could mean a Vishra refresh.
