This is probably a stupid question, but the door infront of most cases opens and when it closes it covers two fans. Are cases designed to have good airflow with the front panel closed or do you need to have the door open all the time to utilize the front two fans?

There are two cases I am really interested in, is the answer to my question different for either case? Which one of these cases is better.. I am looking for excellent airflow and silent operation, and hopefully the easiest cable management or design because this will be my first build.

The question is irrelevant for the Fractal Design case, since it has vents at the side. And the Corsair case has vents at the bottom, also you have an option to install a fan at the bottom. The advantage of the latter is, if you don't need the fan holes, they can stay closed and it will be more silent. But if you need them you can use them, for it has 10 of it, instead of 7 like the Fractal Design case. Thus I would recommend you the Corsair case. If it gets too hot in summer, I'm sure you can remove the front door. But if you like the other one more, you won't make anything wrong either.

nope. getting the 550D is a waste of time compared to the fractal. it has minimal cabling room, and minimal airflow to your components. i can assure it will run 3c hotter than it would in the fractal. more fan ports mean nothing.

i personally have a 550D and if the R4 came out earlier, i would have picked it up right away

Thanks TheBigTroll! I will be going with the Fractal case then. This is the set-up I am planning on building. Does it look like it will have good adequate airflow? Where would be the best place to mount the extra two fans?

Thanks! that monitor looks awesome, going to order it today! One of the reasons I was going with the Asus Z87-PRO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard is for the added in wifi and bluetooth. Would you still go with the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard if you wanted those features?

thanks

the odds of you using blue-tooth is almost non existent for a desktop pc. for wifi, just pick up a standard n-300 adaptor and you are good

@ TheBigTroll
Well, I just assumed. But if you have expierience with the case, you'd know it better of course, then I'd say the best answer goes to you. Otherwise I agree with everything you said.

If it was me Id go with the Corsair Obsidian 550D because Im used to the brand and it has 8 expansion slots. It also has good cable management. I dont really know much about the Fractal R4 case but I would still go with the corsair.
