Hello,

I can't afford buying high end hardware and i'm stuck on what should i do so i came here to ask, please only people who truly understand in computer hardware and CPUs respond.

My current system configuration is :

MB : ASROCK G31M-S R2.0
CPU : Dual Core E2200 @2.20Ghz
RAM : 4GB
VIDEO CARD : NVIDIA GTS 450

My problem is that i use my PC mainly for gaming and it's starting to disturb me with the frame per second drops in newer games and basicly i don't think it will be able to handle the next gen games.

What should i upgrade ? (as i said i can't afford very expensive hardware, i just want something cheaper that will allow me to play in good conditions)

What i thought of doing is switching from the Dual Core E2200 to Core 2 Quad Q8400, is the Q8400 enough to run next generation games without a problem in my computer ?

Here is its specifications :
-Quad Core
-Frequency : 2.66 Ghz
-FSB 1333Mhz -
-4MB Cache

What's confusing me is that the processor was released in 2009 it's pretty old but it's a quad core will it be able to run the newest next generation games great ?

I need help with this please respond, thanks

buddy , the best thing you can do at the moment is to upgrade to an AMD FX-6300 processor and a new motherboard for it .

it will cost you less than 180 $ and it would be much better than an Core 2 Quad system .

what is your budget ?

Core 2 Quad processor are pretty old but good , i was running battlefield 3 using Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 @ + 60 FPS but it depends on the Graphic card ( i was using an HD 7850 which is 2x better than yours )

you should keep some money to upgrade that GPU to something better buddy .

That'd be a nice upgrade and all but to say that your system would be able to run next gen games would be false.

For starters you'd want 8 gigs of ram, and a much newer graphics card. Only thing is with that processor you be getting would bottlenecks with cards capable of playing newer games well

What I say is that it won't be worth it to buy an old quad-core CPU. If you want performance for a lower price I suggest to look at the AMD FX 4300 and yes before anyone jumps and says "hey get and i5, that CPU you posted sucks" I must say the 4300 is pretty good for what it offers. Other alternative to the FX 4300 would be the Intel Core i3 3220 (pretty much the same price) tho notice that it's a dual core but it's having hyper threading which sometimes helps will be able to handle games as good as the 4300. Even without hyper threading giving full support over games it will achieve same performance as the 4300 or even more

Now depending on the budget since you would need another motherboard for the new CPU, a cheaper alternative IMO would be an Intel combo of: Intel Pentium Dual-Core g2020 + GA-H61M-DS2 motherboard. I find it pretty good for it's value even if It's not High End stuff and will handle games pretty good.

On short I would take the new technology over the old to be more safe and a little "future proof". Hope this helped! :D

the FX-6300 is better than the FX-4300 since it's 6 cores vs 4 cores .
