Unsure about Quality of Computer

Solution
Or if you want to go with a better processor and discrete graphics to be upgraded seperately later, i might do something like this:

You can build your own that's better than that. Most pre builts skimp greatly on the parts - especially the PSUs and GPUs. On top of that the cases are proprietary and upgrading them in the long run will be difficult or near impossible. I would do something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($154.99 @ NCIX)
Motherboard: ASRock FM2A75 Pro4 ATX FM2 Motherboard ($87.48 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($82.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.99 @ Canada Computers)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($18.84 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $512.25
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Agreed. Don't Buy store builds, they either use terrible parts or they bottleneck it.
The posted build above by g-unit is a great choice and leaves much room to upgrade.. More than enough power from the psu will let you upgrade to a graphics card over the on-board to get good graphic performance.
And, if you open up the acer computer and change anything it voids your warranty.. Buying individual parts, each has it's own warranty so you can customize and change parts when you see fit!
Overall, awesome build.

g-units build is a great option, i just wanted to highlight the other road as well.

EDIT: i just noticed you're in Canada, so these prices probably aren't spot on, but hopefully close.

Thanks for all your help. I'll see if I can get the parts, but frankly I don't think I have the time or the budget. I can only spend $500 on this computer at max before taxes. If anyone can find any prebuilt computer in Canada that does better than this one, please let me know.
