More about display driver stopped responding
  1. it could be card overheating, bad driver, or power problems. Try downloading the latest driver and the driver cleanup utility from amd. Run the driver utility and completely remove the old driver and install new.

you can also try this: it has helped some
    1. open REGEDIT
    2. goto HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers.
    3. Add following DWORD "TdrLevel"
    4. Set the value to "0"
    more info here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg487368
  2. download the latest driver from amd or from my card manufacturer?
  3. do i have to uninstall any drivers before i download new ones?
  4. i went to amd's website and it says i have the most up to date drivers

re download it remove old driver using the utility (http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx) then reinstall
  6. I noticed in the description of the utility, it says currently supports windows 7 at this time. Does this mean only windows 7? Because right now I have windows vista 64 bit
  7. yes it should work
  8. that cleanup utility is for windows 7 os and above, i have found a place to uninstall my video drivers within windows, its called device manager and then i go to my graphics card, drivers, then there is an option to uninstall drivers. would that be ok to do?
  9. sorry for posting so much lol its just im completely new to messing with drivers and i dont want to royally mess something up

yes but that will not always remove everything. the utility will work on your system (Windows Vista / Windows Vista 64 bit / Windows 7 / Windows 7 64 bit / Windows 8 / Windows 8 64 bit). just run it and it will completely remove all instances of the driver. then reinstall the driver.
