I believe my modem is fried after a lightning strike...should I buy a modem and press forward or take my computer in to have it looked at?

I know I need a cleanup done of my computer anyway...but what is my best bet at this point...the computer itself turns on but will not connect to the internet...we live in a rural mountain area and lightning is common this time of year...it is connected to a surge protector..but so are several other electronics...which were also damaged after this particular storm.

thanks

If the computer otherwise works, just won't connect to the Internet, most likely just the modem fried. Do you have another PC or laptop you can use to test the modem?

Are you talking about a dial-up modem or a cable/dsl modem? Is it seen in device manager if it's a dial-up modem in the computer? What exactly happens when you try to connect? Do you hear the dial-tone when it dials out? Have you tested the phone jack?
