I have been trying to get my minecraft to work for the last week on my PC. Before, it worked flawlessly on my build and I could get 200+ fps. Now, it won't even launch without getting stuck on the downloading terrain part. I have backed up my saves and reinstalled but it didn't fix the issue. Starting a new game has the same issue too. Java was reinstalled to version 7 update 25, the latest as of 7/25/13. Please help if you can with this issue.

My specs are as followed -

AMD FX 6300 @ 3.5ghz

8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333mhz

1TB Western Digital Black 7200RPM

AMD Radeon HD 7870 2gb @ 1050MHZ

600W power supply

Windows 8/7 Professional 64 bit

If you need any other info, just reply and I will gladly give it to you.+

UPDATE:

Just tried launching it and I was able to get past the loading and in game but I was confined to a 50x50 area and anytime I tried to move, I would glitch back to the point at where I started. Why would this be happening? I haven't changed anything on the PC so a software change wouldn't and shouldn't be the issue. the 50x50 area was just a piece of terrain and nothing surrounded them but air. I can walk off the terrain and fall freely at a slow speed but I am eventually teleported back to where I started.

Also, I pressed F3 and see that my allocated RAM is only 1 gig. 95% of that is used. How can I increase that and why would it be using so much now if it never did before?

Solution
Uninstall Java and reinstall Java 64 bit. Unfortunately Java 32 bit causes various bottlenecks.

Java 64 is what you need for Minecraft. Note: Java 64 is not readily compatible with IE10/Google Chrome etc. But at least your minecraft will work normally.

make the sure all previous Java versions are completely uninstalled using the control panel, before installing Java 64 bit. You should not have 2 versions of Java at the same time to prevent Java from actually running 32 bit when what you want is 64.

what's your operating system? Windows 8? Windows 7? Windows (fraction) 8 out of 7?

could you please explain in terms of folders or files what you have deleted and re-downloaded?

something I could suggest you try is installing the 32 or 64 bit Java versions and see if that makes any difference.

I have 7 and 8 dual booted. Issue is on both but I am using 7 right now. I have 32 and 64 bit installed. As for the deleted question, I backed up my saves and deleted the whole .minecraft folder in Roaming.

are you sure it's 50x50? chunks are 16Wx16Lx256H and it sounds like it's not loading in the chunks fast enough, something that can happen when you're playing on multi-player. is this is local (singleplayer) game that is not being shared/turned into a lan game?

the 50x50 was really just an estimate, it isn't large enough to include my whole house, just a portion of it. as for it not loading fast enough, they never load, no lag, nothing. I have Vsync on so it stays at a solid 60 most of the time after it has loaded. In the F3 menu, it shows 0 Chunk Updates all the time.

I'm on singleplayer, I have never hosted to LAN or anything like that with this save.

I actually tried installing Optifine and it caused it not to launch at all which is why I had to redownload it and resintall minecraft as a whole. I can try it again but I am a little confused as how to install it.

I have never installed any mods and have thoroughly cleaned any remaining minecraft files before reinstalling. Now it won't even work and the game is using every bit of my RAM. It just pisses me off because I have no way of saving my world as it is corrupted. 50 diamonds and hundreds of hours wasted.
