I've been running my rig no problem for about 3 years now. About two weeks ago I couldn't get it to boot. Would get stuck on error code 'FF'. Monkeyed around with it a bit, reseated RAM, cleared CMOS, started working again.

Now today it has completely died. Still gets stuck on'FF'. So far I have:

Tried booting with no RAM
Tried booting with only 1 stick (in each slot).
Removed Video Card.
Reseated all mobo power cables.
Reseated CPU heatsink with new thermal paste.
Let it sit unplugged for an hour then tried booting with no CMOS battery and nothing plugged in other then CPU and 1 pair of RAM.

My specs are:
AMD Phenom X4 965
Radeon 7850
1 8gb G-Skill Ripjaw PC-12800 (2 stick) kit.
1 16gb G-Skill Ares PC-12800 (2 stick) kit
750 Watt Corsair PSU

So, bad mobo or processor?

Solution
If it is reporting FF as an error code on the board.

FF Power on and first initialize CPU.

1.Check the 8 or 4 pin 12v supply located next to, or near the cpu is firmly seated.

2. Remove the cooler from the cpu, take out of socket and check for bent pins.

3. Make sure the Cpu is locked in the cpu socket properly.

4. Last of all to consider is a fault has developed with the PSU of the system.
