I tried to install a gpu on my pc and it wouldn't post. Now whenever I start the system it turns on and off and off and so on for two minutes. I tried removing the battery pressing the clear cmos button and shorting the jumper with my keys for 30 seconds (the battery was removed when I did this). My mobo is a msi z77a-g45 with a 3570k.

To clear cmos.
unplug power from powersupply.
remove battery from motherboard.
let the motherboard sit for like 15 min. Go watch TV or something.
Come back to motherboard, put battery in. CMOS is now cleared.
