So ive played both arma 2 and arma 3. In singleplayer scenarios and editor, where the map isnt overloaded with stuff, i get an average of 60 fps. Then when i join a wasteland/domination server with 40 people, my fps drastically drops to around 8fps. Is my rig not capable of running it or is it just something weird dropping my fps. i ran all the can u run it and systemrequirements lab and they all say im above recommended.

Here's my setup:
Windows 7 home premium OS
XFX RADEON HD 6870 1GB
AMD ATHLON II X4 645 3.1GHZ
FATALITY 550W PSU
6GB RAM
*dont know my mobo but here is my computer model that i started out with then later upgraded:
System Model AY138AA-ABA CQ5320Y

*i have tried all the fps boosts like gamebooster and tweaking files and even lowering the setting to the lowest possible doesnt help.

wondered for an answer for quite a while, finally signed up for toms and asked, PLEASE help

Your GPU should be able to get at least 30 fps, but you might not have enough wattage from your PSU. Either way, I have a HD 6770 (basically a rebranded 5770) and it sucks sh*t, so I would swap out your GPU for a more powerful one.

well i wasnt really looking in getting a new gpu cause that was the last thing i upgraded. i was more thinking of a proscessor becasue arma is a more cpu intensive game. any suggestions around $100?

AMD APU's are basically a CPU and GPU in the same dye, and can go for around $100 USD - $200 USD. The earlier generations will be the cheapest.

Do you know which apu is the best at a $100 budget? And if it would get very good fps in high player games in arma 3

and does it install in a cpu or gpu slot?

i run currently a 6670 for arma 3 with a amd 6100, im a armaholic, it runs fine on low settings, fps sits for me at 15-25, its ok, nothing crash hot but i will say im currently building a new pc with a i7 3770k oc'd and a 7950, for i would say you can definitely play at, but dont expect the world from your system but yeh playing it is noooo dramas just settings low is all

Budget PCs are not my niche, so it's best to look for yourself. Pretty much just browse reviews, recommendations, then make your choice depending on what you want from your PC.

thanks for the suggestions. i have a few questions about apu's tho.
1.Can you run an apu and gpu at the same time?
2.Whats the apu's wattage compared to a gpu+cpu wattage.
3.i see that an apu uses an fm2 socket. Will it work with a mobo that uses am2/am3? (is fm2 the same as am2?)

your talking about an apu and all that, tbh, use what you got for now, its fine, and save till you can upgrade to a decent cpu ie 8320, i dont think an apu is a good suggestion for yourself espically seeing as your system will run arma just fine and will run it a hell of alot better then what i run arma 3 at, arma 3 will use a bit of everything, gpu, cpu, your system is the same as a buddies of mine and he runs arma higher and better then me, save your cash, buy the game, play it and dont overthink your system.

As for your fps dropping as they do, what is your ping on these servers, on arma 3 i have seen my fps drop to 3-5ish due to a high ping server. I can garantee your cpu is not letting you down

My ping never goes above 100 on the server i play on. averaging about maybe 60-70.
also the thing is my system passes recommended yet my fps fluctuates at 7-18. Its like something isnt working like it should but idk.

okay, in arma 3(i know its in beta, but the problem occurs in armaa 2 as well) i run no mods. on bf3 i run on med idk fps, but it is very playable im guessing at least 30. Arma 2, in editor and scenarios very good framerate again idk specifically but it is very good unless i add a lot of units in the editor. the fps drops are always in multiplayer games with 35+ people in them(wasteland/domination) and i was on high, dropped everything to low and probably get like a 3fps increase. ive tried setting all the views to the lowest still no luck,

1. Yes, yes, yes, yes. That's the reason I recommended an APU. When you pair it with another AMD GPU, and you can pair it with your current card (I think, not sure), it should CrossFire the two cards, essentially giving you two GPU's and more performance. Note, though, that the scaling with CrossFire and SLI is game-based and in some cases adding a second GPU doesn't help at all.
2. The difference is negligible.
3. No, FM2 is a different socket. If the sockets are not the same, the CPU won't fit. It's easier to notice with AMD CPU's as they don't have the pins on the socket, rather the CPU itself, but for Intel it's harder to tell and it can screw you up monumentally.
