Is the motherboard faulty?

I have spent a few hours now with my newly assembled computer which is having some problems. I tried to put the ram into my motherboard and yet it won't go! I don't understand i applied quite a lot of pressure to the point to where i was afraid that i might crack it. Crack it i did not. Either way i can't lock it into place the plastic mechanisms are only halfway down. It is this way with all four ram slots! The ram and motherboard are supposed to be compatible. I didn't know what to do so i left them partially in. I put the rest of the computer together and powered it on. When i did so all the fans booted up for a few seconds and then immediately everything turned off. Only to have the computer boot back up and stay running this time.

It happens time and time again. I have no idea and no matter how much i search no one seems to have a solution that works for me. I'm sure one of the two is fault. Yet i don't know which one.

May have tight slots, have you contacted BioStar (hopefully they'll be better than MSI was with the issue - they repeatedly denied to people they had even heard of any problems even with them being rampant, I called on 4 different mobos and had some clients call - every time we were told they hadn't even heard of any boot loop issues.

That is not a good idea to leave the memory sticks partially inserted. If you are having trouble getting the little latches to snap into the notches on the sticks, press them in as far as they want to go and "help" the latches into the notches with your finger one end at a time.

I tried time and time again and the ram would not snap in I tried applying pressure while also using the plastic mechanisms. I tried pushing the ram from the center and still nothing would happen it remained unable to go in.

I don't understand how people can put ram in backwards it is notched off center. Anyways i have also tried rocking it but it just stops. Dead immobile yet i can pull it out very easily so it isn't stuck

Weird, may sound stupid but it is DDR3 DRAM corrrect. Have had folks try to pop DDR2 in......you've already indicated the DRAM notch lines up with the raised indent...haven't heard of it with BioStar, but there have been occasions when manufacturers put out mobos with overly tight DIMM slots, most notable that I remember was MSI and the P67 line of mobos, those however at least went about 90% in and resulted in a continuous, boot/shutdown loop....Possible you have even tighter sockets than they used

My ram is indeed DDR3. I've read cases as well about people trying to use ram that either isn't the right pin-count as well as it being ddr2. I have neither of these problems. Although the problem with the msi mobo sounds exactly like what my problem (the booting up and down).
@clutchc No because the ram has an area where it should clip. The shrouds are no where near in the way and if i were able to lock the ram into place it wouldn't touch the ram slot.

No i have not contacted biostar, i contacted amazon who was more than willing to replace the board for free. It didn't occur to me that the board could be flawed in that manner. I have only heard of bent pins and obstructions in the slots themselves being the problem. I am guessing you suggest them calling them about it? Or should i just tell amazon to replace it and hope the problem isn't universal with their motherboards?

Yes, prob just have them replace it, and hope you get one from a different production batch, may just have been a single bad one...never know....if replacement is same woul dask them to provide a like mobo from a different manufacturer (preferably the big 3) i.e. Asus, ASRock or Gigabyte
