Now this is only looking at what Microcenter has in the Houston area, but I've been searching and doing comparisons and it seems that the GTX 550TI would be the best purchase for a refurbished model at $74.99. The other cards that I see that are listed in that price range are the Gigabyte 2gb 7750 for $75.96 (open box) or GT640 $79.96 (also open box). There are some others that are not significantly more expensive but I'd really rather not spend more money.

I just wanted to make sure that I'm not missing something and the 550 would be my best choice. This is going w/ AMD FX 6300 and will be used for gaming and HTPC

I appreciate any help!

Among those , the GTX 550 ti is the best.

people are selling their GTX 660 Ti now to buy the new GTX 770 or GTX 760 in SLI , try to look in ebay for GTX 660 Ti

How much are you willing to spend? I know refurbished models can be and are fine most of the time, but newer range cards are more reliable. Also what type of gaming are you doing, what brand is the 550ti, and you should probably shop around a bit more.

7750 he mentioned is VERY slow card with DDR3 Video ram NOT GDDR5 ...

and the GTX 550 Ti is faster then the 7750 ...

The 650 TI is unfortunately a lot more than I'd like to spend. I had found an open box for the 550 TI for $59 but it's no longer available. I'd really like to spend $75 at the most. This isn't my main computer. I had built it for an HTPC but after setting it up decided I wanted to add gaming to it via my ps3 controller. I currently have a 550 TI (my other computer) that I hooked up to my setup to try it out and I was satisfied w/ the results I was getting so that's why I was initially looking at this card.

As far as the type of gaming. I will most likely be playing Need for Speed, NBA 2k series, Madden, Skyrim, and BF3. Those are the games I currently have and I feel like my current card in my desktop does a well enough job at 1080p

There is an open box Sapphire 7750 1GB GDDR5 for $95.96 and a Zotac GTX 650 TI 1GB GDDR5 also for $99. I forgot to mention also, the motherboard pci-e is 2.0 x16 if that makes a difference on my purchase. Is one of the cards for $25 more really THAT much better?

I actually picked up a Powercolor AX7770 for $68.99 after rebate from newegg. I would have preferred locally just because I wanted to finish the system today but that's okay. They also have a 650TI for $89 after rebate for anyone interested
