So my compute has a virus, (im certain) and it freezes every time i get into windows. So i wanted to get into safe mode so i could run my antivirus, and I did the shift-f8 method. I mashed soooooo hard, and i got into a screen that looks like the bios, and says boot manager. Nothin there, press enter, then nothing. I have to reboot. HELP ME PLEASE, WHAT DO I DO!

You need a Windows 8 Installation disk or a Repair disk. If you have neither, get a friend to make you a repair disk/drive on their Windows 8 PC. Simply at the Start Screen type 'Create'. From 'Settings' choose 'Create a Recovery Drive'. Don't bother with the Recovery Partition, and you will be given a choice between USB or Disk drive.
In your PC BIOS set Boot to whichever media you choose, and use Troubleshooting to get you into Safe Mode.

Well, no one I know uses windows 8...they are all sticking with 7. i was given a recovery drive that came with my laptop, but there is no safe mode option in it when i boot it. there is a command terminal option, would that help?

edit- I am thinking of buying an install disc, so I can do as you say, but in the end, I can get past the boot manager screen into windows 8, right? (After I've scanned for viruses, how can i get past the blue boot manager screen and into windows?)

What you need is the option to get into Troubleshooting, do you see anything similar to this from your Recovery disk?

Having chosen Troubleshoot you would then choose Advanced Options to get the machine to boot into Safe Mode. Installation disks not easy to come by, I have only discovered links to download the Upgrade Version so far. Perhaps you will have to use the recovery partition on your Acer to reset your machine to Factory Settings, means you may lose all your data though.

there is a "refresh your pc" and "reset your pc" option, but I tried the reset option, and it didn't work, it always got to a point, then something happened, and it wouldn't work. the reset your pc option says that the drive partition thingy is locked, and i have to unlock it, but I cant get into windows to unlock it in the first place. On the recovery drive, there isn't much of anything that looks helpful, except the terminal, and I don't think the terminal will do anything either though. There are a few other options, like UEFI firmware settings, and system image recovery, and automatic repair. when it comes to data, I don't have any valuable data that I need on my laptop, in the end, I just want it to work. There is this laptop help place, i went there and showed the store owner my problem, and he said he will "reinstall windows." I was wondering how he would go about doing that, since if he "reinstalls windows" how would I get into windows past the boot manager screen?

Try tapping F11 at Power on, see if that gets you into a Recovery Menu to access your Recovery Partition. If not, post your Acer Model number. Store owner will install Windows from an Installation disk, but will need to restore Acer Drivers, long process and expensive labour costs! I have spare disks, but am in UK so you'd have to wait a day or three... Disappointing you're not offered the Advanced Options in Recovery, that would give you a whole host of tools to recover your PC.

When i tried this, i did not give me a option of a disk or drive. now am i missing something??

Probably need to insert an external drive in USB port to get a choice...

dodger46:so I got the the troubleshoot page. now what do I do, also what can I do to see this doesn't happen again?

What was your original problem? If a virus, choose Safe Mode to run your Antivirus.
