I'm in quite the predicament... About 4 years back I made the choice to get a computer build from a local shop that specializes in computers. At the time I didn't know as much in computers as i do now, and just recently I've decided to upgrade various parts. Well while i was looking over my system to see what I'd like to upgrade, I came across that I'm running a 32-Bit version of Windows 7 versus a 64-Bit program. So I was wondering If there was a way to upgrade from a 32bit to the 64 bit version of windows 7 using the same key that the guy used to install windows in the first place.

But here is the kicker.. The guy didn't give me the box containing the disc's or the CD key.. SO I have no way of re downloading the 64bit version using the disc. Is there another way? or am I doomed to buy another copy for like 99$?

I don't think you can upgrade your 32 bit windows to 64 with the same cd key as the prices of those two are different.
Anyway why do you want to upgrade to 64 bit ?
Believe me it just brings you compatibility problems for older programs or video games. If it's because of the RAM (officially 32 bit doesn't support more than 3gb of ram but there are some patches that can help it, I did this once, I had 4gb of RAM and wanted to use all of it so I just installed a patch) I only turned back to 32 because of the lack of issues of compatibility. In fact there is almost no difference between 32 and 64 except for the ram (witch can be easily fixed) and also 3gb of ram is more than enough even for hd video editing or gaming, if you don't believe...

You're saying you actually payed for this version of Windows ?
Because in that case there shouldn't be problems with you downloading it I guess ?
1) Download a torrent client (Bittorrent is the best)
2) Simply go on any torrent website (http://torrentz.eu/ would be your best bet) and type in what your looking for and click on the torrent download buttons (never click on any fake direct downloads who are nothing but advertising)

As I said, as long as you bought it, there's no reason why you couldn't download it. Be aware that torrent is not illegal, only if you download illegal content. (like if I would download the last Lord of the Rings movie without actually having paid for it)

No, I haven't yet payed for another copy of Windows 7 64bit, I'm still using the 32bit version from the day I first go my computer built. I guess what I'm asking is if it's possible to upgrade my version from 32bit to 64bit with the current CD key I'm using from a digital download considering I was never given the windows 7 box with the install disc's. Or am I just dreaming of this being a possible way and what I really have to do is buy another copy of Windows 7.... say http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 in order to get from 32bit to 64bit?

So my advice is; stay on 32 bit or waste a hundred bucks, the choice is yours, mate :p

Thank you for your attention.
