my gtx770 is giving a video card error when i have it in a pcix16

i have tried it in the 8x slot will and it works what are the disadvantages to this always running in this slot
Motherboard: gigabyte ud5h

the 8x slot is x16 but share its bandwith pciex16 slot

It works fine in the 8x slot its just that main x16 i was just wondering if there are any downsides to using it always in the 8x
