Kodak m853 problem charging

I bought a Kodak m853 EasyShare 3 years back. I have not used it for a while, an year. But now I tried to charge up its Li-ion battery but the charging light does not glow. I think its battery might be dead. If I purchase one will it work?
Or ,can I do something to the old one?

As Kodak has stopped making most of its products, I can not find the battery too.

And if I buy the new one what is the procedure to handle it , to make it durable?

Did you leave the battery in the camera while it was not in use? For many cameras leaving the battery in while not in use for long periods of time will shorten the life of the battery. I have a Sony camcorder that I left a battery attached to for an extended period of non-use and the battery life was shortened and eventually failed to hold a charge. It is a good idea to drain the battery (maybe not completely) from time to time and then charge it to maintain battery life.
