IGMP Snooping and MLD Snooping (A padawan's networking question)

Solution
If this is for a typical home network, I really see no value (or harm for that matter) in enabling these services. If a corporate/business environment, you might consider using. However, for the vast majority of uses, these services are not required.

The intent of these services is to help filter multicast traffic from being sent to your network (whether by mistake or maliciously). Unless you are targeted by such traffic, you really have nothing to worry about.

I suggest you try this. Check your network speed with and without the services enabled. Use something like speedtest (http://www.speedtest.net/) to check performance. Make your decision then.

Good luck!
