Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop. Has issues with graphics in 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. It has the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Upon installation of Windows 7, everything works until comes time to install the video driver. Once that's installed, the display flickers terribly with evidences of overscanning. I use the driver furnished by Dell at their driver download site.

I think the hardware is working and the software to be at fault based on 2 things:
1. attaching an external monitor stops the flickering and both laptop and external monitors work properly; 2. Installation of 64 bit Ubuntu Linux version 13.04 works flawlessly with the display in its highest resolution possible. The 64 bit Linux driver works just fine and with 2 monitors as well. They call it the Sandy Bridge mobility in the graphics description.

Any suggestion on fixing the Windows driver?

Solution
Uninstall the driver from Dell site that you installed. Let windows provide the drivers for display. See how it works.

To uninstall the driver and to clean up the registry use this : http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
