Ethernet port not working

Hello, I've recently moved to a new computer that had windows 8 on it when I was given it. I used a TP-Link that was plugged into my computer with an ethernet cable and the port worked fine. Then I put windows 7 64-bit on the computer and since then the ethernet port has not worked. I don't know where to start with this so I'll just write all the information I've managed to acquire since this problem arose.

All other computer devices, when plugged into the TP-Link, worked perfectly. Both my laptop and my old desktop had no problems. I also then plugged my new computer into the modem itself and the same problem arose.

If I look in device manager, I don't see the ethernet port in network adapters, only my USB wireless device that I plugged in after the ethernet didn't work. In 'Other Devices' there is something called 'Ethernet Controller' with an error sign beside it and in the description for that it says:

'The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.'

(also in other devices is something called 'SM Bus Controller' which is seemingly in the exact same situation)

If I look under 'View Network Connections' I also only see the USB wireless.

In the menu at the bottom right at the screen, there is a sign with an x beside it that says: 'device driver software was not successfully installed' and under is listed the Ethernet Controller (and SM Bus Controller) as 'No Driver Found'

Thanks very much for reading, sorry if much of this information isn't necessary. Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point. Thanks again.

You need to look up the make / model of your pc and download the "lan" driver for it to work. Looks like your missing other drivers as well.

Anytime you do a clean install the next step is to make sure all the proper drivers are in place and update all of the patches for the OS.

Go to the manufacture's website. E.G. Dell.com hp.com etc w/e the make is. It will have a place to download the drivers. Make sure you get the Win7 ones.

And make sure they're the Win 7 x64 bit drivers, not x86 32bit.

This is strange... I redownloaded and reinstalled the driver.. And it worked! Now my internet works!

I am so sorry if I wasted anyone's time here, I have no idea what was wrong with the previous download, I did the exact same thing.

:) Glad it's working. An as lost said... You'll see Lots of fun and interesting things if you continue to mess around with pcs lol. Make sure while your at it that you install the rest of the drivers your missing when you looked at the comp management console.

Typically they would like for people to pick the "best solution" or best answer for whomever solved the issue or helped the most. They track the best answers with badges an stuff... So depending on the topic you might see someone who has a Motherboards badge, or a cpu expert badge etc showing that they have had a lot of top answers.

I really don't do it for that :p. Just like to help out where I can, when I can.
