I'm planning to purchase a laptop with configuration of:-
3rd Generation Intel i3-3227U processor (3M Cache, 1.9 GHz, with GT730M 2GB Graphics Card, 4GB RAM)
Will this laptop be able to play games like Battlefield 3 ?

You will be able to run the game and set it to the lowest possible settings. You could get a decent 30 FPS at a 720p or lower.

You might see some frame drops when there's a lot of action on the scene. And I doubt you will be able to play online with too many people.

As a rule, you don't buy a laptop for gaming. With that said, there are gaming laptops out there which will play battlefield 3 in multiplayer but there's not alot of point in spending so much for 30 minutes of play before the battery is depleted.

That's the long way of saying: NO.
