Always having to reset wireless adapter or access point

Firstly this happens to both my laptop and my desktop in my room. My brother and mom's laptops do not do this. Only my desktop and laptop(Both sit in my room)

I'll be going about my business, and then one second my internet crashes and I do not have a connection. But it says I have connections available. So I click to connect to my Belkin wireless connection, and it says I cannot connect so I trouble shoot. Then it says "Problem with wireless adapter or access point fixed", then usually about 2 minutes after that it happens again, then I can go about for maybe 30 minutes without it happening. I thought it could be my antivirus, so I changed it, that didn't fix the problem, and I am literally about to go out and buy a new router.

The funny thing is, it seems like the problem got worse and worse. I don't remember this happening with my laptop when we first got it, and then I think I remember it happening every once or twice a week, and now it's gotten to the point where it's at least 15 - 20 times a day. HOW DO I PLAY GAMES ON MY DESKTOP LIKE THAT? Oh right, YOU CAN'T! All the laptops in the house are windows 7. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! My phone even does it! My iphone4 will say that I'm connection to wifi, then all of a sudden, bam it goes into 3g.

I have no clue, do I need a better/stronger router? I get 3/5 bars in my room. I had an old laptop and thought the laptop was bad, and I needed a new pc anyways so i built a gaming desktop with a wireless adapter in it, and it does the same thing. Please help... do I need a new router? Or is there a fix to it?

Keep in mind, my phone, my desktop, and my laptop all do it, and they all are generally in the same room. We have 2 other laptops that do not do that, but one laptop is RIGHT next to my room, and it doesn't do this. Thanks guys. and remember, it says that it FIXED the problem, so I get connected back into the internet, but then it just happens again. I can't game like this. Please help,

Solution

yes basically, type the routers web address and access its configuration page, go onto the wireless setup page and change the wireless channel.

i would install inssider on a laptop and check the wireless networks around you first to find the best channel with the least people on it instead of blindly changing channels and seeing how it works.

it sounds like you could be getting interference from an outside source, what i would do is change the channel of your wifi on your router to a less congested one, download and run inssider and checkout what networks are around your and what is the least congested wireless channel.

it could be that your neighbour is on the same channel and using their devices at certain times which cause yours to drop out (and most likely theirs to be bad also).

This is DEAD COMMON with cheap wireless kits, ESPECIALY BELKIN! AAARRGGHH! After the honeymoon period, which depends on usage,
the power supply to the router will start to break down. Tho you get a signal and can see the router all the time it will freeze up mid page swap and disconect you. I dont know why it only affects you stuff. Are you furthest away? are there always multiple connections at once? I wouldnt touch a belkin again as long as i live. Did I mention I had one? AARARAGGHH!

it does seem like my room is the furthest from the router, considering, im at the very top floor, and the router is in the basement lmao

Try the channel changing advice, and check the voltage output on the router transformer if u can. Also, if you are using onboard (motherboard ) wireless, you really need something external with an antenna on it at any distance .

seems like instead of 3/5 bars, im getting 4/5 bars, i also have xirrus wifi monitor gadget on my desktop, which shows me having 60%+ range, which is better then me having 50%-55%. But odd enough I found out that i have 2 connections, not sure why? one that is my regular wifi name, and the other that has 5GHz at the end... the one with 5GHz has a worse connection, but it uses my password. I'm unsure of that, maybe the adapter problems where on that connection, and I was secretly connected to that connectiion without even knowing? not sure, well I guess we just have to wait and see if I have that problem again ^^

Generally, one would assume the 5 ghz connection would be better ( being trafic sparse) but if everything else was connected @ 2.4 ghtz I wouldnt trust that router to maintain two different frequency connections to multiple users at the same time. Its only a 1 amp transformer. .
Hopefully you've cracked it!

That sounds about right to me, at a longer distance the 5mhz channel will be worse as it is more sussceptible to interference from obsticles, it sounds like you have a dual channel modem, see if you can try to keep it connected to the 2.4mhz channel

The funny thing with channel congestion is it may appear you can have a reasonably strong signal but your performance will be terrible, see how your performance is now.
