Good Gaming Keyboard?

I know there are a lot of posts about this but i have some other questions also. I am getting into PC gaming and i recently built a budget gaming PC. So I decided I'm going to get a Logitech G500 mouse and i want a good keyboard also. I like "clicky" keyboards a lot for some reason haha. Also i will be typing school papers and stuff in addition to gaming (mostly FPS). So what would be good? I don't want to go too much over around $100. Side note- i need a number pad.

The clicky keys are mechanical switches... There's a few different types if switches used in keyboards that have different feels and sounds. They're described here: http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

My favorite is the Cherry MX Blue switches, I have a Razer Black Widow with the Blue switches

Thanks for the response! I knew about mechanical keyboards and stuff i guess i meant i like keys that take more pressure to activate. After reading that artical (which was very helpful) i think i would like the Blue switches the most. Can you tell me if they are good for gaming though? Since you have a keyboard with them i assume you can. That says that red are the best for gaming but i think i would like having the "clickier" blue switches.

blues aint particularly good for gaming although you can game with them. if you like clicky but are more gaming centric then browns are for you.
personally i play a lot of fps so i prefer the linear stroke of the reds/blacks which dont suffer the same double tap issue the blue and browns suffer from because of the mechanical click just as the key registers causes a double bump.
so for gamers i would say go linear, if you type a fair bit and game then brown or green(rare and are the same as browns but heavier to the touch). if your purley a typist then blues are for you...
other things to look for is full nkroll over. most mechanical keyboards dont offer it but the better 1s do... stay clear of razer as they may look pretty but are limited to between 3 and 10 key roll over depending on what key combo you press.(to the razer owner above, i know you will want to shout this 1 down but all i can say to you is you made a mistake in buying that. yes you may be happy with it but you can get way better for less money if you know what your buying and dont just fall for marketing hype)...

i've heard mixed opinions from people on gaming with the blues and i think i want to stick with those. You suggested the browns but aren't those just like the blues but non-clicky?

HEXiT, totally agree with you. I have used the razer keyboards before and they are crap... they look nice, but at the end of the day, they are just dumpy Made in China products. stay far away...

Ehhh, not sure how long the sale is going on for :/ ... But on amazon, they say they only have 17 left in stock, so I would imagine until they sell all of them? Probably would act faster than slower...

Ya it isn't a sale. That's just the street price. Its that same on tigerdirect. Just to make sure, it does have blues, right?

Yea for sure, oh well! My bad!
Also, unfortunately I don't think it has blues. My buddy just told me that apparently Roccat doesn't make mechanical keyboards, but that they are working on one right now. However, that being said, I still highly recommend this keyboard. I type a great deal for work, and I find it really nice to type on. So in this regard, it's not just for gaming.
Sorry if I couldn't be of more help!!

browns have a tactile bump but aint clicky. blues have a secondary mechanism that creates the click sound that they remove for browns. so the browns like i say have a tactile bump but no click.
which in theory makes them quieter but quiet is relative when your talking mechanical keyboards.

although its an interesting read. its a little out of date. usb 2.0 can now support full nkroll. i know this because i have a q-pad mk85 and its usb and has full nkroll. your articale says you cant have it over usb which is incorrect today.

but if they are both tactile than they would be the same for gaming, right? I like the click so i would opt for blues over browns. Do you have any recommendations for a decent board with blues? I just need something that is entry level so nothing as expensive as a ducky/das.

the browns are slightly better for gaming and although there classed as none clicky they do make a definatle click as the key passes the tactile bump. its just not an introduced click that the blue has. like i said they add an extra little bit of kit to make the click noise so in reality the blue key clicks twice (but there so close together it sounds like 1 click.) in overall feel there is little difference between the blue and browns. but the noise level of the blues does make them different. and defiantly loud.
http://www.maximumpc.com/mechanical_keyboard_guide_2013 check this out if you want a clearer picture and animations of the differences.

as doe decent boards with blues. nearly all manufacturers offer a blue option there are a few option available at different price points.
http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/271128258364?var=lv&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y this 1 was selling at around 50 last week but the price has gone up by over 30. still its worth looking it up elsewhere as im sure you will find something similarly priced (50-55) elsewhere.
zalman do a cheaper mechanical keyboard but i have no idea how well its made or how good it is as far as key roll over goes. it will set you back between 45 and 55 depending on where you shop.
but you best look about yourself.

amazon often do return deals where keyboards have just been sent back but arent 100% as far as packaging goes. they are still guarenteed to work but the box may have been damaged in previous transit. often these keyboards will be sold for as little as 50% or the rrp.
so well worth looking at.

What do you think about http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-RK-9000I/dp/B008SVJH16/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1374975387&sr=8-3&keywords=cherry+mx+blue ?

if it has everything you want and is at a reasonable price they why not...
rosewill dont actually make anything they just brand stuff. but the stuff they do brand is generally decent. so while the name may not be premium there kit often is. that keyboard no different to the ducky keyboards in fact i think it is a ducky 9000 it just isnt wearing the badge.

I have one thought to add. Is backlit important to you or not? I purchased a cherry mechanical without backlightening, and I enjoy gaming at night with the lights off, so I cannot see the keys well and my fingers get lost sometimes. I know this to be a common problem with my gaming friends online. Just a thought before you buy, in case it is important for your keyboard to double as a nightlight :p.

Thanks for the input! Back lighting is not something i need. It would be a bonus; However i don't like gaming/using computers in the dark so it isn't something i need. There is a model of that keyboard with back lighting for an extra $10 so i may as well get that one.
