Shipping a gaming tower

In about a month, I will need to ship my custom gaming tower across a moderate distance (California to Seattle), and I had some questions about how I should do this. I plan to lay it on its side in as well-fitted of a box as I can with both bubble wrap and packing material to immobilize the tower as much as possible.

I have a couple worries, however. I use an aftermarket cooler, the Hyper 212 EVO. Is there much of a danger of this damaging the motherboard during shipping, or should it be fine? Also, should the hard drive and optical drive be fine as long as I screw them in, or should I remove them beforehand and pack them in my luggage?

Any advice is much appreciated.

I have shipped some pc's.
I keep the case boxes to use for shipping.
Your cooler is bolted down, so it should not be joggled loose.
To take some strain off rough handling, open up the case and stuff bubble wrap inside so any movement is restricted.
I think your parts will be ok so long as they are screwed in.
I asked the UPS store about marking my shipment as fragile. They did, but said it would not make a difference.
Couldn't hurt though.

Hey,

Any heavy component such as a CPU cooler or a graphics card can put strain on the motherboard if it is on the road. It is best to remove large heatsinks and graphic cards not to put strain on the motherboard. Some companies that build and ship PCs add special expandable foam cushioning inside the case to prevent components from moving. The more bumps you hit on the road and the more the machine moves the more risk you have to damage it.
Your idea of immobilizing it as much as possible is good, also if you plan to lay it on its side you will minimize the risk of straining the motherboard. Personally I would remove anything heavy inside the case and/or cushion the inside with some anti-static packing material so that nothing moves around.

As for the hard drives, as long as they are securely screwed into their bays there shouldn't be a problem, but if you think there is a chance that the machine will be accidentally dropped its best to remove them.

Hope this helps!
