My friend just built a computer and after running properly for about an hour it shut down and restarted, however, with a repetitive beep. After 15-20 seconds of beeping it restarts and repeats this process. Any ideas on what we should do? When it shut down we were only installing a game from steam. All drivers were already installed. Any help? Thanks!

Solution
Try booting the computer with only the essential power connections (i.e. one hard drive, power to the mobo and video card [if applicable], etc.)

Or try using another PS if you have one available.
The motherboard is telling you there's a problem - the beeps should be in a specific sequence and it indicates something is wrong in the system. You can google your motherboard model and find out its beep sequences.

And you can start here by posting the components of the build.

Yes I forgot to mention that. I'm going to look up the sequence myself as well, buy I'll post the components here too. i5-3570k, EVGA GTX 680 FTW, Gigabyte Z77X-D3H, 8gb Corsair RAM. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply, but we are getting around the 40 quick repetitive beeps. The website only shows up to 11. What does around 40 mean.

We just took a closer look at the link you sent us. It said "continuous short beep: Power Supply Unit failed". The only thing we could think of was unplugging all connectors and reconnecting them. We also switched the PCI connecters because there was an extra set. We found that unplugging all and plugging them back in gives us only ONE successful boot, only we can't reach Windows. The computer restarts just after it exits the BIOS and is supposed to enter windows. Any ideas?
