Can I hook up my laptop or Ps3 to one of the ethernet ports in my room? We have a large house and our wifi router is on the opposite side of the house, so it doesn't reach. Will an ethernet cable from my system to my wall give me internet?

Solution
It depends on what the outlet in your room is connected to, behind the walls. If the female Ethernet receptacle in your room is physically connected to your router on the other side of your house, then yes, you will get Internet access. If the cable connected to the wall receptacle in your room isn't connected to anything on the other side, or is connected to something other than your router or a switch which in turn is connected to your router, then you will get nothing.
