I'm planning on building a new system top-to-bottom but never did it before and am just wanting to get some experienced people's opinions before I blow my cash on it. Someone showed me a nice template for such a thread and I took full advantage of it. So here's the low-down on my new system plans...

Approximate Purchase Date: Within a month or two (knock on wood)

Budget Range: $1300 for now (maybe $1500 but only for significant price/performance upgrade suggestions - another $300 for SLI/cooling upgrades in a year or two - so $1800 future end-price total)

System Usage: gaming, internet, writing, audio recording, movies/music

Parts to Upgrade: EVERYTHING besides mouse, keyboard, speakers and headphones

Do you need to buy OS: No (I have Win7 Home Premium that I can transfer)

Preferred Websites for parts: Newegg and Amazon

Parts Preferences: Full tower case, ATX motherboard (preferrably Gigabyte, ASUS or AsRock), NVidia GPU for future SLI, Intel CPU, 2TB HDD, 24"ish 1920x1080 LED monitor

Overclocking: Yes (future)

SLI or Crossfire: Yes (future)

Additional Comments: I'm thinking about getting the white THOR case and swapping the fans with blue or red LEDs at some point (mixing colors?), but I'm not very good at aesthetics. Any tips on a cool design? No pun intended.
-----
Also, I would want the fans to be real quiet because the mic I use for recording music is extremely sensitive and can pick up the slightest noise from my PC.

Reason for upgrade: I want to build a new beast system with some money I saved up. My old one is pretty good but starting to fall back in fps on games (I intend to sell my old system so no parts are being kept).

SO (DRUMROLL!) HERE'S THE LIST OF PARTS I HAVE IN MIND

CASE: Rosewill THOR V2 (It's only $110 new on Amazon)

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-Z87XZ-D3H

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2x4GB) 1600

HDD: Toshiba 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s

MONITOR: Acer G246HLAbd 24" 1920x1080 5ms LED

DISC DRIVE: ASUS DRW-24B1ST 24X DVD Burner

THERMAL COMPOUND: Arctic MX-4

I know I'll need an aftermarket cpu fan for overclocking, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

So if anyone has any tips on a better "this" or more effective combination of "that", please let me know! Like I said, this is my first top-to-bottom build and I'm learning as I go. Thanks, everyone!
