Okay so I haven't built a computer in many years so I am a bit rusty, but I built myself a desktop and it's up and running and I have windows installed and everything is hunky dory except the Rosewill RDCR-11004 card reader I installed isn't showing up either in bios or in Windows, neither is the xdock on the storm stryker case that I also have hooked up.
They are hooked up to sata ports 4 and 5 and neither show up in bios or windows and I have tried to add usb drives and cards and nothing (although there is power). However when I go into windows device manager I can see them under disk drives as generic usb generic sd etc. I am not sure what is going on. Any advice would be appreciated.

System:
MSI z87-gd65 gaming motherboard
i5 4670
storm stryker case (I did not hook up the 20 pin 3.0 usb on the case so I could use the card reader instead)
samsung ssd pro 840
western digital caviar blue 1tb
16gb ddr3 1600
Windows 8

It seems like you have a card reader w/ an eSATA port.... to work you need to plug in the SATA cable for the port AND you need to plug in a USB cable for the cards ..... Internally you have 2 x USB 3.0 + 4 x USB 2.0 which should be more than enough for everything.

I did not try this case , try insert a harddisk in the bay you connected and then restart the machine and see if it detects the hard disk.

and what do you mean by "you hooked the Xdock to sata 4 and 5 "? I am looking at the Striker specs and it has only one dock for 2.5 inch SSD ..

Thanks for your suggestions. It seems I am an idiot and there was nothing wrong with it, but the three different SD cards and one USD I was trying to test it don't work (they all belonged to my teenage son). I had installed drivers and everything was connected properly and I was getting ready to give up and return the card reader as faulty, but then I remembered I had a brand new usb drive and decided to try that as a last ditch and it worked just fine, then I tried a sd card of my sister's later and it worked very well. I have since made my son recycle his broken cards lol.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks very much for trying to answer.
