I was given an HP Pavilion G7-1173dx as a first laptop about two years ago. It was a fantastic laptop for that time. However, it had constant hard drive problems, overheating issues, and memory issues. As I became more of a PC enthusiast, I built my own machine, started writing a blog about testing parts, and built laptops, all in one PC's, and standard desktops for other people. This knowledge led me to try and look inside the computer. I don't know much about laptop motherboards (specifically HP) so I just compared pictures of a regular 1173dx motherboard to mine and quickly identified the problem. Pieces of the motherboard were missing. A picture of the broken piece is shown below. I don't know if this is a result of overheating, or poor laptop repair but should I invest in a new laptop or spend another amount of money on this cash sucker. It was around $550 when it was new and now, after RAM upgrades, hard drive replacements, and new software its costed over $700.

Thank you,
Max

If it was a peice of the motherboard falling off, your laptop would not work. For anyone to see the picture you need to host it on a web site and link to that, you look to have just typed in the image name.
