New HDD making grinding noise

I had to move my just-built computer to clean my room and now it makes a grinding noise. Could it be that the lock came a bit off? I'm using those free-tool locks, but it made no noise at all after restarting it while upgrading the drivers. The noise isn't frequent so I dunno if it's actually faulty or just something hitting it. My cable management is a mess right now.

Right now it's working just fine, so I'd love to know what's going on before calling Western Digital.

The noise went from frequent during startup to just barely audible, is it just the normal reading noise?

I also installed it at the top of the bay, so I dunno if being so close to the plastic top is causing the noise.

this is a pretty noobish question, but is it just the normal reading noise? I'm not used at all to having the HDD to be the most noisy component, but since my PSU Fan is off unless on heavy load, and my heatsink and case fans are brand new, I guess there's no other source of noise at all from my PC. I noticed that my funs were at max speed during startup, so I guess the HDD was just writing at high speed because of all the stuff I installed before the last time I shut down my PC.

Hi

Seagate has a bootable diagnostic disk (CD ISO image ) which will work on most brands of hard disk not just Seagate

Western Digital has a Windows diagnostic test program which again works on most brands of hard disk

this will confirm if disk ok or faulty

(do not try repairs with other brands of hard disk)

I ran the quick test and it seems fine

I mainly game on this pc so I guess I can live with the noise, since I have my headset on most of the time. I'm still very happy with the speed of this HDD so I don't regret the choice I made. I was just shocked that it started making noise out of a sudden.
