I'm thinking of buying the 3570k, asrock z77 extreme4 and a 7850 and after about a year getting a 7970, but I could instead get a 4670k and use the intel HD graphics 4600 for a year and then get the 7970. I would be using this pc mostly for playing modern games at 1080p. What do you think I should do?

Solution
Definitely go for the 3570k+7850 so you wont have to wait a year to play modern games at 1080p, even with the new integrated graphics being improved it will be no match for the 7850, which you can sell on when the time comes for the 7970

There will be better value cards than a 7970 a year from now, when AMD releases their new line up things will change.

Instead of replacing what you get now perhaps just add another when you can, that would give you the best gain for your dollar. I would get either a 7850 or GTX 650Ti Boost, which ever is the best deal then add another later.

the best for u is to get 3570k rather than 4670k
1.haswell is just 5-10% ahead of ivy
2.ivy is more o.c. as the haswell produces more heat than sandy-E processors
3.there is no news that later generations would be supported by the 1150 socket

as far as graphics card a 7850 is a good card but better is to get a 7870 ghz
