Switching from XP back to Win 7

Question...we have a Dell PC that originally came with Win7. Because of software incompatibility at the time, we added a new hard drive loaded with WinXP and ran off of that hard drive, completely disconnecting the Win7 disk. Now I'd like to swap back to the Win7 disk but when I do the system won't start...it goes to the repair option. I suspect that at some point there may have been a BIOS change, but I don't know. I'm not quite ready to go live with the win7 yet - I would just like to start getting it set up for the user at this point - so I'm not comfortable make changes to BIOS that would not prevent XP from running. Does anyone have any suggestions for what in BIOS may have been changed that could prevent win7 from running? Thanks!

Thanks for the rely...

I am completely disconnecting the xp drive and connecting the w7 drive. We have not run this as a dual disk system. We just left the Win7 disk in the box for this purpose...never plugged in.
